What is your horoscope?
God has a lot to say about the stars, sun and moon. For one, He has stated that He created the stars to be for signs and for seasons that we can observe and marvel at His great power. They are meant to point us to Our mighty Creator. Mankind, on the other hand, has created horoscopes, zodiac signs, tarot cards and numerology based on the study of the stars and planets, as a means to determine who we are, our relationships and what lies ahead. This is a grievous mistake because it invites deception.

Genesis 1:14 ESV And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years,
Isaiah 40:25 ESV To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name; by the greatness of his might and because he is strong in power, not one is missing.
Over the centuries, people have assigned great meaning to the stars and planets they could see and believed that these faraway balls of rocks and gas have some kind of magical power over their lives. Many people continue to place their faith in these manmade ideas about the moon, stars, sun and planets. The Bible warns that this will only lead to ruin.
Isaiah 47:13,11 ESV You are wearied with your many counsels; let them stand forth and save you, those who divide the heavens, who gaze at the stars, who at the new moons make known what shall come upon you. … But evil shall come upon you, which you will not know how to charm away; disaster shall fall upon you, for which you will not be able to atone; and ruin shall come upon you suddenly, of which you know nothing.
The stars point us to our amazing God
We worship an immense God with astounding creative powers. Based on estimates by astronomers, “there are about 100 billion stars being born and dying each year, which corresponds to about 275 million per day, in the whole observable Universe.” God gives a name to each star He creates, as it joins the universal chorus that praises Him every minute of every hour.
Psalm 147:4-5 ESV He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names. Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.
Psalm 148:3 ESV Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars!
When God brings our attention to the stars, it is to remind us of His extraordinary power as well as His tender loving humility to pause and care for us. Like King David in Psalm 8, we can marvel that such a mighty God would take the time to care for our individual needs.
Psalm 113:5-8 NLT Who can be compared with the Lord our God, who is enthroned on high? He stoops to look down on heaven and on earth. He lifts the poor from the dust and the needy from the garbage dump. He sets them among princes, even the princes of his own people!
Psalm 8:3-4 ESV When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
We are not made in the image of star signs
As people from ancient times marvelled at the stars that God created, they began to worship them by assigning supernatural meanings to them. Many of these mythical beliefs and pagan practices began in ancient Babylonian and Egyptian civilisations. At that time, God warned His people not to imitate the abominable practices of their Babylonian and Egyptian neighbours. Yet, they did not obey God.
Deuteronomy 18:9,13-14 ESV “When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. You shall be blameless before the Lord your God, for these nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do this.
The reading of horoscopes continues to be popular across many different cultures and can be found in all types of media today. We may personally know family and friends who are strongly attached to their horoscope signs.
If we associate ourselves with our Chinese zodiac signs or birthdate signs, we are in reality, placing our identities beneath the signs of animals or objects. We are all created in God’s image, not the images of rats, snakes, goats, dragons, planets, wood, fire or metal. All these are superstitious products that seduce the masses into following high-sounding myths and witchcraft. People pour a lot of money into such superstitious beliefs, trusting in their entertainment or supernatural “powers”.
Genesis 1:26 ESV Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Isaiah 2:8 ESV Their land is filled with idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their own fingers have made.
Astrology separates us from God
God calls us to worship Him with clean hands and pure hearts. When we become intrigued and start to believe in astrology, we are like “dung on the surface of the ground” to our Heavenly Father.
Psalm 24:3-4 ESV Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully.
Jeremiah 8:2 ESV And they shall be spread before the sun and the moon and all the host of heaven, which they have loved and served, which they have gone after, and which they have sought and worshiped. And they shall not be gathered or buried. They shall be as dung on the surface of the ground.
The Bible warns that we face a time when people will turn their lives over to man-made teachings that appeal to their self-centred passions and wander off into fanciful ideas and myths. Such passions include finding a life partner, seeking good fortune, wanting better relationships with others, understanding one’s temperament and so on. Even God’s priests in Judah fell into the same trap and left God’s truths.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 ESV For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
2 Kings 23:5 ESV And he deposed the priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to make offerings in the high places at the cities of Judah and around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and the moon and the constellations and all the host of the heavens.
The next time someone asks us, “What is your horoscope?“, we might want to consider our answer before we speak. We worship the Creator of the stars, not the stars themselves.
Psalm 146:5 NLT But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the LORD their God. He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever.
Strong warnings for horoscope followers
God loves us too much to treat the things that separate us from Him lightly. God’s Law instructs that all horoscope followers must be put to death. Otherwise, more people will be deceived by them to worship Satan through astrology and be eternally condemned, separated from God. We may not put feng shui masters, new age psychics or fortune readers to death today, but we must beware not to be deceived by them.
Deuteronomy 4:19 ESV And beware lest you raise your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, you be drawn away and bow down to them and serve them, things that the Lord your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.
Deuteronomy 17:2-3,5 ESV “If there is found among you… gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun or the moon or any of the host of heaven, which I have forbidden… you shall stone that man or woman to death with stones.
Repenting and destroying astrology worship
Many people are unaware what God’s Word says about horoscopes, lunar calendars, zodiac signs, tarot cards and numerology. Thank God that we can receive a complete pardon for the sin of astrology through Jesus Christ.
It starts by repenting of all our past practices and destroying all objects that are related to astrology in our possession. Those in the early church knew that their souls cost much more than the large financial losses they faced by burning their scrolls. We too need to check if we have astrology books, jewellery, tarot cards, digital files and images, paintings and so forth in our possession, and be prepared to destroy them regardless of the cost.
We also ought to pray in Jesus’ name to cut spiritual ties with tarot card readers, feng shui masters, temple readers, psychics and all those who influenced us to turn to Satan, as well as the places we visited that worship the devil. These may include new age shops, jewellery shops that sell astrological signs, Mayan sun worship centres etc.
Acts 19:18-20 ESV Also many of those who were now believers came, confessing and divulging their practices. And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver. So the word of the Lord continued to increase and prevail mightily.
Finally, we need to command all related spirits to leave in Jesus’ name and go to the pit of fire, never to return. Ask the Holy Spirit to help us identify the names of the spirits that need to be expelled, He will help us cleanse our bodies, which is His temple.
1 Corinthians 3:16 ESV Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
Turning wholeheartedly to the Lord
Thank God that once we repent of our intrigue with astrology and turn to Him with reverence in our hearts, He will no longer withhold His Holy Spirit from us. Our Heavenly Father will fill us with His spiritual wisdom and knowledge for the answers we seek. May we love God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, with all our hearts, minds and souls and never be tempted to return to satanic horoscopes.
Proverbs 1:22-23 ESV “How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you.
Proverbs 1:7 ESV The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Testimony: Repenting of belief in the zodiac and seeing strongholds broken
Growing up, many false idols filled our homes, including statues of guan yin, buddha, and the three gods of fortune, prosperity and longevity, etc. Our family invited fengshui masters into our home and believed in using fengshui objects and Chinese horoscope predictions to improve our fortune. Later on, I carried these superstitious beliefs and idolatrous practices into my own marriage and family.
I became fixated with the Chinese zodiac and associated my husband and myself with the zodiac animal signs related to the years we were born in. My father was born in the year of the monkey and I was pleased that my husband was also born in the year of the monkey. I believed this meant we were compatible and destined for a good marriage.
When it came time for me to have children, I intentionally timed it so that I would have a baby that was born in the year of the monkey, so we could have three generations of monkeys. I bought two pictures of my husband’s and my zodiac signs and hung them up in our home to represent us.
I also became increasingly obsessed with fortune tellers, wanting to know and improve our family’s luck.
When both my children were born, we consulted fortune tellers to derive their names and provide predictions for their life. We also allowed my son to be dedicated to guan yin. Every year, I would buy the latest publication of the popular feng shui masters zodiac books and refer to the predictions throughout the year for advice and insight.
When we moved into our new home, we invited a fengshui master to help advise on the home’s “energy flow” and to give predictions over our family members, marriage, and relationships.
The fortune-teller said that there would be problems in our marriage and division of family relationships later on. That always lingered in the back of my mind and I had doubt and fear of what this meant.
During inner healing and deliverance prayer, I repented and asked God to forgive me for sinning against Him by following false idols, occult practices, and seeking fortune tellers for my family. I didn’t realise that I had opened the doors for demonic spirits and spiritual darkness to enter my family and the lives of my husband and children. I repented for allowing others to use counterfeit power to lead me and my family astray.
I declared the truth that Jesus is tenderhearted and full of grace. He gives me the power, love and self-control to love my husband and children. Also, where my heart had been blocked by the occult, I declared that Jesus’ blood would cleanse and unlock everything so that His love can flow through me to all my family and others.
After I finished declaring repentance, I felt much lighter. The headache, neck and shoulder tightness that I had been feeling were gone.
I also prayed to break the ungodly words I had spoken that we resemble the animals of the horoscope. In Jesus’ name, I revoked all the curses that the fortune-tellers had spoken over me and my family. My prayer counsellors reminded me that we are made in the image of our Heavenly Father, not in the image of a monkey or any animal. We are all children of God.
They then led me to repent and break spiritual ties with ungodly places, people, and the demonic spirits related to the occult in Jesus’ name. This included temples, Taoist funeral parlours, ancestral worship halls, fortune tellers and sorcerers that I had previously sought out. As I finished breaking ties with the occult, I saw a vision of a dragon tail leaving from the corner of my eye. I am so glad that I cut off the influence of Satan in my home and family.”
May this sharing be a blessing to you as you seek to love God with all your heart and dedicate yourself to His image.
