Imagination
Our imagination is a God given gift, it takes us beyond our human limits to connect with God’s thoughts for us from heaven. His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts. To see accurately in the spirit as God directs, it is important that we surrender our imagination to the Holy Spirit to control, so it is not led by our soul (emotions, mind and will). This is especially important because the world we live in is filled with idolatry, and many images and ideas that take us far from God and defile our imagination.
Isaiah 55:9 NKJV “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 KJV (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Furthermore, unclean spirits can “hijack” our imaginations when we lose conscious control of ourselves. Our imaginations are generally under our conscious control. (In both conscious thinking and in imagination, the frontal lobe of our brain, which is responsible for planning, decision-making, problem-solving is involved.) But if someone gets drunk, takes drugs, or goes under hypnotism, the frontal lobe of the brain is temporarily disabled. That may lead people to ‘see things’ but this is not from the Holy Spirit. They have opened a door to other spirits. It is crucial that we repent of such activities and close the door to the enemy.
A prayer to cleanse our imagination and re-dedicate it to the Holy Spirit
“Heavenly Father,
Thank you for giving us such powerful minds that are able to connect with Your thoughts for us from heaven! You desire for me to have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16). I desire that too. Holy Spirit, forgive me for allowing spirits of fear, perversion, unbelief, bitterness, and anger to lead my thoughts and corrupt my spiritual understanding. I renounce such patterns! I desire to follow You and You alone, my dear Saviour.
1 Corinthians 2:16 NKJV For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
You have said that the pure in heart will see God.
Matthew 5:8 NKJV Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.
In the name of Jesus, I repent of (name all that apply to you):
- hardening my heart towards You when You tried to show me spiritual truths (Hebrews 3:8)
- my unbelief towards spiritual and heavenly things, when my God is Spirit and He dwells in heaven
- my fear of seeing in the spirit and/or vowing to never see in the sprit
- placing more faith in ‘ghost’, horror, paranormal stories I have seen than in Your Word
- admiring images or artistic expressions that have origins in idolatry, mysticism, and the occult — things You hate
- peeping at things that I should not have
- feeding my eyes with images of naked bodies, debauchery, pornography (a form of prostitution) etc.
- reading literature filled with cursing, perversion and violence etc.
- meditating on my worries and/or being self-absorbed, thereby taking my eyes off the Lord
- drunkenness, drugs, hypnotism, new age, evil eye, third eye, opening chakras, trance through chanting etc.
In the name of Jesus, I repent of all the times I have used my fleshly imagination to conjure up ungodly scenarios and images that are contrary to my Father’s will for my life. I should have sought my Lord and Saviour for guidance, comfort, truth, and revelation, instead of using my imagination for fleshly self-justification, comfort, and escapism.
In the name of Jesus, I repent of imagining (name all that apply to you):
- my worries and problems to be much bigger than my God
- the worst in people
- someone’s character based on biased stereotypes
- my own or other people’s misfortune e.g. accidents, downfall, sickness, and even death
- fantasies of violence, murder, bloodshed, demonic war-games
- ways to take revenge and vindicate myself
- ways to glorify myself
- ways to manipulate or take advantage of people
- ways to deceive and/or cover up sin and wrongdoing
- sexual fantasies
- other people naked
- new age visualisations to ‘manifest’ success
- a version of my own reality that I like (self deceit)
- my future based on horoscopes and fortune telling
- art forms that are a perversion of Your creation (plus creating them, if any)
- daydreams as a form of escapism
Holy Spirit, please give me the spiritual eyes to see the state of my temple and what else I need to repent of and be cleansed from so that I can be filled with more and more of Your Light. [Wait and see if the Holy Spirit shows you anything.]
In Jesus’ name, I commit my mind, my thoughts, and my imaginations to my Lord Jesus and I command every spirit connected to all that I have just repented of to leave me now in Jesus’ name, go to the pit of fire, never to come back.
Beloved Holy Spirit, please come and cleanse me, Your Temple. I ask for the spirit of wisdom and revelation so that I may grow in my knowledge and understanding of You. Please come flood my heart with Your Light and open the eyes of my understanding so that I can see Your spiritual truths and walk according to Your will, not to carelessly wander into ungodly places with my thoughts and imaginations, because every word and thought is recorded in heaven.”
1 John 1:9 NKJV If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Ephesians 1:17-19 NKJV that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power
Matthew 12:36-37 NKJV But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
“Lord, please help me to love You with all my mind, heart, soul and strength (Luke 10:27), to love You so much that I am incapable of sinning against You. Thank you for seeing my weakness, my sins and my rebellion —and still choosing to love me, forgive me, cleanse me, and restore me as Your own. I am forever grateful. Because of Your great mercy and the sacrifice, I am not bound by guilt or condemnation. I am bound to love others and show them grace just like You have shown me. [In your own words, please continue to give thanks to the Lord.]”
Psalm 86:15 NKJV But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 NKJV Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
