Lesson 18 | Renew our life narratives

Course
Summary of key points
  1. Our life narratives are the stories we form about ourselves, our relationships, and life in general.
  2. They determine many of our life decisions.
  3. They are usually influenced by the world and our experiences.
  4. There are eight major sources of influence that help steer our life narratives: family, authority figures, bitter experiences, childhood memories, worldly sayings, stereotypes, media, and witchcraft (with sample life narratives for each source).
  5. We need to trust God to write our life narratives for us, rather than determine them for ourselves.
  6. We all need to renew our minds with the Holy Spirit’s help.
Group reflection questions
  1. What are some of your personal takeaways from this study and testimony?
  2. What do you think about your life? What is your vision of an ideal life or “successful life”?
  3. Have you seen how your own life narrative would have driven how you live and shaped other people’s lives around you too?
  4. Who has been the greatest influence on the development of your life narratives?
  5. Would God consider that person/s your idol?
  6. What do you think is God’s narrative for you? Is there anything about your expectation about your own life which needs to be renewed?
