Healing

Prayers
Jesus gave us the authority to heal “every disease and every affliction” in Jesus’ name. Asking for healing is not based on how good we are, but on how good God is. Let us put aside any doubt and unbelief and ask our loving Father in heaven for His healing touch. Even if we don’t always see instantaneous healing, we can trust that God has heard our prayers and has answered them, one way or the other.

Matthew 10:1 ESV  And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction.

A prayer for healing over ourselves

“Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, for everything You have provided me with, including my physical body which has been fearfully and wonderfully made by You.

Psalm 139:13-16 ESV  For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

Whether in sickness or in health, I choose to be content and at peace in all my circumstances because You are always in control.

Philippians 4:11-13 ESV  Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Jesus, I desire to remove all spiritual corruption in this body, please show me how to pray. Where I have been unequally yoked with those who worship idols, have been the subject of curses (spoken or otherwise) or hatred, thought about death, I break them in the name of Jesus. Where I have harboured unforgiveness in my body, I repent and bless those I have resented.

I’m sorry for the times I haven’t taken care of this body as I should, by overexertion or unhealthy eating. I’m sorry for not observing a holy day each week, dedicated to resting and being restored by You. I’m sorry for the times I used this body You gave me for unrighteous ways of living that dishonour this gift from You. I know that You promised to keep me from sickness if I followed Your laws, which were set to protect me and prosper me. I repent and ask for Your forgiveness.

Exodus 35:2 ESV Six days work shall be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it shall be put to death.

Romans 6:13 ESV Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.

Exodus 15:26 ESV  saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your healer.”

Thank You that You have declared that You are my Healer. Grant me wisdom in knowing who to consult for medical advice. Teach me to lean on You and You alone, and discern when the doctor’s counsel is according to Your plan for me.

Thank You that even though we neglect to love You and Your gifts well, Jesus still died for us on the cross and took on the curses of our sins upon Himself, including the curse of both spiritual and physical sickness. Thank You that You have chosen to make our bodies the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 3:13-14 ESV  Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—

Isaiah 53:5-6 ESV  But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV  Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body

In Jesus’ name, I ask for healing to begin in this body (you can be more specific about the type of healing). I believe Jesus shed His blood to free me from any bondage of sickness over two thousand years ago and it is His declaration on the cross that “it is done” that I also declare about the healing in my body today.

Heavenly Father, please help me to overcome any unbelief that may undo Your healing in me. I trust Yours is The Hand of miracles, and Jesus who healed the multitudes when He was on earth, is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Matthew 13:58 ESV  And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.

Mark 9:23-25 ESV  And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!” And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”

Matthew 13:8 ESV  Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

In the name of Jesus, I rebuke any spirit that is causing affliction and sickness in this body that God has created for me, and I loose any stronghold that is undermining God’s work in me.

Matthew 18:18 ESV  Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

I put my faith entirely in You, Heavenly Father, and what is already being done in the unseen, and trust You for Your perfect will and timing.

Hebrews 11:1 ESV  Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

However You choose to heal me – now or later – do it all for Your glory. I lay down my life and choose to be a healthy living sacrifice for Your namesake, a testimony of Your love and power. May all aspects of my being and body, from my thoughts and emotions to my actions, be pleasing and acceptable to You, whether in sickness or in health.

Romans 12:1 ESV  I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

Even as my body is slowly fading day by day, I know my spiritual life can be renewed to last forever. Above all, I choose the highest form of healing, and that is to cleanse my heart so I can love others like Jesus loves me.

2 Corinthians 4:16 ESV  So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.

1 Corinthians 13:3 ESV  If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Fill me with the joy of the Lord which is my strength, uplifting me every single day this sickness keeps me from physically living fully for Christ.

Nehemiah 8:10 ESV  Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

Teach me to wait on You, Lord, so that my strength may be renewed, and I can run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint – wherever You wish to bring me. I re-dedicate this body to You, for Your glory.

Isaiah 40:30-31 ESV  Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

From this day onwards, I will study the Bible daily, keep your commands in my heart, and avoid evil. You promise that when I live this way, my life will be long, peaceful, and prosperous, my body healthy, and my bones strong. Thank you, God!

Proverbs 3:1-2,7-8 ESV  My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.

In Jesus’ name, amen!
