Work testimony
Our jobs provide us with wonderful opportunities to demonstrate godly values at work and what it means to have peace beyond understanding. There may be days, however, when our “to do” lists seem overwhelming, our bosses unreasonable and our co-workers uncooperative. We may even feel like throwing in the towel and quitting. Let us not lose hope and continue to be a good testimony for God through our work.

Philippians 4:4-7 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
A prayer to honour God through our work
“Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the job You have given me.
Thank you that my ultimate reward comes from You – only Your name lasts forever! Teach me not to put my faith in praise, money, or status at work, but in You alone, so I can do my work wholeheartedly for You. Only then will my joy overflow and not depend on my circumstances at work.
1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Psalm 146:2-3 NLT I will praise the LORD as long as I live. I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath. Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there.
Thank you for all my co-workers, including the ones I find difficult to work with. You love all of them as much as You love me! So teach me to see what You see in them and help me to put aside my emotions, prejudices and judgment, so my words and actions will be rooted in my position in You, and not depend on how they behave towards me. Only then will I have the security and dignity that I desire at work.
James 4:10 ESV Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Colossians 3:23 ESV Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Thank you for the future You have planned for me at this workplace. Protect me from the enemy’s schemes to steal the spiritual blessings You have in store for me at work. Prompt me to pray even during work hours. Only then will I be able to speak and act wisely, not based on my pride or insecurities, and but as the Holy Spirit leads me.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Thank you for the tangible and intangible rewards that come with work. Teach me how to also use the money and knowledge from work for the benefit of others, especially those in need. I don’t want to hoard beyond my essential needs, show me how to use the abundance You have placed in my hands to bless others.
2 Corinthians 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Lord, please inspire, refresh and empower me, as I walk into the workplace with the Holy Spirit leading the way.
