Catholicism
Our wonderful Lord and Saviour, Jesus, proclaimed that there is no other way to the Father except through Him. Jesus made it possible for every believer to go boldly before the throne of God the Father through His sacrifice and blood. Our Lord provided the ultimate sin offering, cleansing us and removing the need for old rituals. All it takes is repentance and faith in Jesus, and humility to carry our cross and follow Him. In the Catholic religion, however, we find rituals that obstruct this wonderful relationship and go against scripture. Here is a prayer to repent and renounce the ungodly influences.
John 14:6 NKJV Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Titus 3:4-7 NKJV But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
A prayer to renounce the idolatry of Catholicism
“Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins, and the gift of salvation, forgiveness, and eternal life through the power of the Holy Spirit. I offer my life up to You as a living sacrifice and renounce all forms of idolatry and worship before graven images that my family and I have taken part in through Catholicism.
Romans 6:23 NKJV For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Exodus 20:4-6 NKJV “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
I renounce venerating, praying to and bowing before carved images and paintings of the crucifixion, baby ‘Jesus’, Mary, popes, and saints. There is no ‘Queen of Heaven’ or ‘Mother of God’ who has power in heaven to intercede with Jesus, bring prayers to God, lead angels, or crush evil.
Jesus is my Mediator in heaven. There’s no other way to You, Father, except through Your Son. Forgive me, Lord, for my past ignorance.
1 Timothy 2:5 NKJV For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
Thank you that You redeemed me to be Your living temple, filled with Your Spirit. Forgive me for using this temple to worship before idolatrous images.
2 Corinthians 6:16-17,7:2 NKJV And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.” Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.” Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
I repent of adding man-made traditions and works on top of my relationship with You. I renounce the use of repetitive prayers (Hail Mary, the Lord’s Prayer), the rosary, holy water, holy relics, candles, incense, salt, crucifixes, signs of the cross, medals, altars, pictures, statues, (please add as the Holy Spirit leads you.) I repent of bowing before any manmade altar and renounce the stations of the cross. Nowhere in the Bible do You, Father God, teach us to pray this way. You call me to come boldly before Your throne of grace, not follow any manmade route.
Mark 7:7-8 NKJV And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men—the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Hebrews 4:16 NKJV Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
I renounce any name selection, confirmation and infant baptism that was done for me as a child in the Catholic church. I renounce any certificate or membership that yokes me to the Catholic church.
I renounce and cancel all oaths of allegiance to, associations with, and ungodly soul ties to the pope, Vatican, Catholic church, Catholic convents, Catholic monasteries, Catholic schools, Catholic priests, (please add as the Holy Spirit leads you.) I repent of following manmade traditions and exalting anyone as holy or being like God Himself! I renounce calling any man ‘father’ and calling any object or human being holy. We are all sinners. Only You, God, are holy. I renounce the holy eucharist (Catholic version of communion), which is said to be changed into the actual body and blood of Christ.
Matthew 23:9 NKJV Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.
I repent of taking part in any rites and prayers for the deceased in a place called purgatory (not found in the Bible) and for practising penance as a way to pay for my sins. Jesus has already paid for my sins with his blood. I renounce and repent of taking part in All Saints’ Day to honor the dead. I renounce any money offered to buy favour with God.
I renounce the curses (anathemas) that the Catholic Church pronounced during the Council of Trent (1545-1563) on anyone who declares that the seven Catholic sacraments were not inspired by God, or are more or less than the seven declared by the Catholic Church. I renounce the policy of the Council of Trent that stated that “cursed is anyone who confesses to have assurance of salvation.”
James 3:10 NKJV Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
I break the power of these manmade rituals, prayers, commandments and curses over my mind, heart and body and I command all related unclean spirits to leave me now in Jesus’ name. I command you to go to the pit of fire, never to return.
Holy Spirit please come and cleanse me. Fill me with Your presence. Please remove any blocks between my Father in heaven and me and any anxiety of not having done enough to be welcomed into Your presence. Lord, I walk boldly into Your throne room with childlike faith covered by the blood of the Lamb. Thank you for sending Jesus to save me.
Father God, You have called every believer to be Your royal priesthood, with Jesus as our High Priest over the house of God. Please teach me how to walk as Your priest on earth and worship You alone.
Hebrews 10:19-22 NKJV Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
1 Peter 2:9 NKJV But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen!”
