Witchcraft
God calls witchcraft “rebellion” and warns us that anyone who practises witchcraft is an “abomination” to Him. Whether our intentions were innocent or wicked in dabbling in witchcraft, God still calls it a “great evil” because we spurn His sovereign lordship — just like Adam and Eve did. Instead of listening to and obeying our Father’s voice, we turn to other spiritual powers for ‘answers’, ‘blessings’ or ‘protection’ or try to manipulate others to follow our will. In short, we play god.
1 Samuel 15:23 NKJV For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.”
Deuteronomy 18:12 NKJV For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you.
2 Chronicles 33:6 NKJV Also he caused his sons to pass through the fire in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom; he practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft and sorcery, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger.
Such rebellion opens the door to many evil spirits who will bring curses onto us and the generations after us, until we repent of all the following in Jesus’ name. We must remove every foothold so as to be free.
- Divination and fortune telling: Seeking to know the future through any means, rather than waiting on God to reveal His will to us.
- Astrology: Turning to horoscopes and the zodiac to ascertain personality traits, relationship compatibility, seasons of life, the future, daily guidance etc.
- Necromancy: Attempting to interact with our ancestors and other dead people for blessing, information, power, comfort, consuming food and drink that has been offered to the dead etc.
- Sorcery: Using spells, incantations, curses, incense or potions to invoke spiritual powers to carry out our desires. Using any practice or substance to achieve an altered state of consciousness eg. drugs, hypnotism.
- Manipulation: Influencing and twisting another person’s perception, opinions, or actions to follow our will. Examples include shaming, coercion, gaslighting, emotional blackmail, silent treatment, playing the victim, lying, isolation etc.
A prayer to repent of witchcraft
“Dear Heavenly Father,
In the name of Jesus, I unreservedly repent of all witchcraft practices my family and I have knowingly or unknowingly taken part in, including (please list ______________ e.g. spells, hexes, tarot cards, ouija boards, séances, reiki, hypnosis, crystals, evil eye, automatic writing, fortune cookies, horoscopes, numerology, the enneagram, palm readings, new age spirituality, ancestor worship etc.)
I renounce and will destroy all lucky charms, talismans, amulets, jewellery, games, toys, figurines, paintings, cartoons and comics related to spirits, witches, wizards, fairies, and mythical creatures. I repent of greeting ‘game masters’ in games related to sorcery, taking on the avatar of different spiritual powers and summoning ‘ghosts’, mutants, deities, spirits, and mythical creatures. I repent of taking part in Halloween, which is a major witchcraft festival that celebrates the opening of the gates of hell.
I repent of all superstitions, including (please list______________ e.g. taking protective charms back home after Taoist funerals, ritualistic baths, consuming potions from spiritual healers, carrying lucky charms for academic success, or talismans for protection etc.)
I cut spiritual ties with all witches, spiritual healers, mediums, fortune tellers, priests, and monks that my family and I have consulted, bowed to and given offerings or alms to.
I renounce every witchcraft covenant over my life, including (please list______________ e.g. rituals done before and after my birth, dedications of my name and myself to spiritual powers, taking part in ancestral rituals during weddings, eating food offered to deities etc.)
I forgive those who led me into such wicked practices and I cut ungodly soul ties with them, (please name them:______________ ) as well as the places they brought me to.
I repent of opening doors to darkness. Jesus came to set me free! I now come clean before my Creator for my own actions and asked to be released from the curses of fear, oppression, sickness, poverty, barrenness, family discord and mental confusion as a result of my and my family’s witchcraft. Father in heaven, I humbly ask to be cleansed by Your Spirit, filled with Your Light and healed from my iniquity. Thank you Lord for Your grace.
In Jesus’ name, I now command every spirit connected to all that I have just renounced to leave me now in Jesus’ name, go to the pit of fire, never to come back. Go now.
Beloved Holy Spirit, please deliver me from evil and fill me with more and more of Your divine presence.

Jesus, my Lord and Saviour, thank you for seeing my weakness, my sins and my rebellion —and still choosing to love me, forgive me, cleanse me, and restore me as Your own. I am forever grateful. Because of Your great mercy and the sacrifice, I am not bound by guilt or condemnation. I am bound to love others and show them grace just like You have shown me. [In your own words, please continue to give thanks to the Lord.]
