Role-playing games
Role-playing games take us into new fantasy worlds, where we can take on supernatural personas, from warriors and princesses to sorcerers and mythical heroes, in mock battles that glorify murder, revenge, self-glorification, and sorcery, all of which are forbidden in the Bible. Instead of training ourselves to love others, we are deceived into yoking ourselves with lawlessness and ungodly spiritual powers. Here is a prayer to repent for falling into such dark activities and be freed from their curses.

2 Corinthians 6:14 ESV Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?
Romans 12:17-21 ESV Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
A prayer to repent of taking part in ungodly role-playing games
“Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for promising me love, joy, and peace when I submit to You and making me a temple of the Holy Spirit. I confess I have indulged in role-playing games for self-fulfillment and yoked myself to things that defile Your temple.
1 Corinthians 3:16 NIV Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?
Galatians 5:21-23 ESV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
I need to remember that I am made in Your image. By taking part in role-playing games, I confess I have taken on ungodly images of creatures and supernatural beings, such as (please list them one by one e.g. god of war, gargoyle, wolf, superpower hero, witch, fairy, angel, etc.)
Genesis 1:27 ESV So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
In Jesus’ name, I renounce the personalities and traits I had adopted while in game-character. Instead of following my true Role Model, Jesus Christ, whom You sent to die for my sins, I have placed myself into such ungodly roles. How this must have grieved the Holy Spirit! Please forgive me.
I was merely following the patterns of the world and led by peer pressure.
Romans 12:1 ESV I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
I was not aware that I was being “coached” into glorifying some of the very things that you hate; violence, pride, killing the innocent, plotting evil, sorcery, and lies. That was not my intention. I was made to believe that such games are simply entertainment and have some social value. I did not realise that I had subjected my body to lawlessness and darkness, even when done virtually.
Proverbs 6:16-19 NLT There are six things the Lord hates— no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.
Today, I confess I have participated in role-playing games that glorify the works of the flesh, none of which lead to the Kingdom of God but only to darkness. I repent for yoking myself to (please name them here e.g. enmity, rivalries, dissensions, death, violence, greed, sexual immorality, money, magic, and sorcery etc.)
Galatians 5:19-21 ESV Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Where I have invited other people to engage in such games together with me, I also repent. Our activities condoned and glorified darkness. Please forgive me and keep me from falling for such deception again.
Colossians 3:17 ESV And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Romans 6:19 ESV I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.
Today I also acknowledge that I should not address anyone as my lord or master, other than Jesus Christ. I repent for submitting to any game master who decided the fate of all the characters, including mine, and revoke any ungodly words and declarations spoken over me. In the name of Jesus, I break any pact or covenant I have made in any game, such as (please name the pacts or player agreements.)
1 Corinthians 8:5-6 ESV For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”—yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
I also repent of submitting to any command to kill, destroy, take revenge, cast spells, summons creatures, and curse others, particularly in (please name the role-playing games, one by one.)
Father God, You are the true Avenger and Peace-giver, not me. Who am I to try to play such a role and glorify myself? There is only one Saviour, and that is Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 ESV 3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: … that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God … because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.
2 Thessalonians 3:16 ESV Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.
Acts 4:11-12 ESV This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Where I have played roles where I served different kings, queens, warlords, or gods, I repent of insulting my Heavenly Father, who loves me deeply and jealously. I have been unfaithful to You in my heart, although I did not know it at the time.
Deuteronomy 13:1-3 ESV “If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
I confess I have requested for unnatural powers and weapons, all of which are rooted in witchcraft. Through these games, I have been instructed in the ways of darkness by demonic powers disguised as “entertainment.”
1 Timothy 4:1 ESV Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,
I confess I have previously asked for the power to (please list them here, for example, the power to levitate, to morph into different supernatural beings, to see into the future, to bring misfortune, to call down fire, to send people to hell, to bring sickness, to call up the dead etc.) Today, I repent of all these and command the ungodly spiritual powers behind these to leave me and submit to Jesus, never to return to me.
Deuteronomy 18:10-12 NLT … And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord. It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the Lord your God will drive them out ahead of you.
I repent of summoning creatures and beings such as (please name them here.) I now cancel all summons and command every creature or being I have ever called forth to leave me and my family and go to the feet of Jesus, in Jesus’ name. Father in heaven, I humbly ask for Your protection over my family and household. I may have summoned up spiritual beings into those dwelling places while playing the games, without realising what I was really doing. Please forgive me.
Today, I cut all ungodly soul ties with the games I yoked myself to, such as (please name them), their producers, (please name them), and the ungodly spirits behind them. I command all the spiritual forces of evil to leave me in Jesus’ name and not to come back to me.
Ephesians 6:12 ESV For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Father in heaven, where I have used my body to foster a fleshly lust for power and self-glorification, please forgive me. I will turn from such ungodly activities and use this body You have entrusted to me to glorify You.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
Thank you that You are faithful to forgive me of all unrighteousness once I confess and repent in Jesus’ name. I need training in loving others – not in how to retaliate, to engage in sorcery, to chase after man-made ideas of justice, and other fleshly pursuits.
1 John 1:9 ESV If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Colossians 3:12-14 ESV Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
Where my mind has been blinded by my enemy, Satan, to stop me from confessing and repenting further before You, please help me remember everything else that I have thought, spoken, or acted out that has been ungodly and sinned against You. (Please pause and wait for the Holy Spirit’s prompting at this point.)
Ephesians 5:16 ESV Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.
