Shame
Jesus is faithful and He promises to replace our shame with a double portion of honour, if we are willing to put ourselves down and follow Him. He will lead us down the road to salvation from the shame of our past and the shame that people cast upon us. Our good Lord is gracious, merciful, faithful, and compassionate. The Lord always gives us a way out when we follow Him. His love is everlasting!
Isaiah 61:1,7 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; Instead of your shame you shall have double honor, And instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land they shall possess double; Everlasting joy shall be theirs.
A prayer to heal from shame
“Heavenly Father,
I confess I have been carrying shame. Please forgive me for not turning to You earlier, for not believing that You will receive me, for hiding my sins and my shame, for coping in my own ways.
Proverbs 28:13 NKJV He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
I have given my emotions and my mind i.e. my soul, and my transgressions, too much power, rather than surrender all to you for relief, healing and restoration. Thank you for Your loving patience!
Romans 2:4 NKJV Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
Today, I willingly forgive ( ________________________ names) who through their words, attitudes and actions, have made me feel ( ________________________ emotions e.g. unworthy / inferior / ugly / stupid / a burden / like a mistake / hopeless / stuck etc.)
I forgive them for ( ________________________ actions e.g. abusing me / humiliating me / belittling me / mocking me / using me / ostracising me / abandoning me / ignoring my feelings and views etc.)
I also forgive church people who have made me feel small, including ( ________________________ name/s) when they ( ________________________ action/words/attitude).
In the name of Jesus, I cut ungodly soul ties i.e. emotional and mental ties, with every one of these people. I repent for and renounce every resentment, fear, judgement and hatred I have had towards them and bless them. They are imperfect in their own ways, so am I. We all need You, Jesus!
I renounce every generational shame that has been passed down to me through family ( ________________________ e.g. adultery / prostitution / triad links / war crimes / scandals / failures etc.)
Evil spirits have been using my unconfessed shame to torment me. They keep reminding me of my past and my shortcomings, when I should be listening to the Holy Spirit’s gentle, kind, and wise voice instead. Today, I break every agreement I have made with evil spirits that shame me in my thoughts, telling that I am “________________________”.
I now command every spirit connected to everything I have just prayed about and the lies I have believed to leave me now in Jesus’ name and I command you to never come back. Beloved Holy Spirit, please come cleanse my body, Your temple, and fill me with more and more of Your divine presence.”
I release myself into the fullness of joy of Jesus’ salvation and thank you that You, Heavenly Father, will uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Please re-make me into the image of Jesus Christ, I turn from the image the world has chosen for me.
Psalm 51:12 NKJV Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
I renounce self-rejection. I repent of my fear of rejection, my fear of man, and the ways I seek approval from people.
Proverbs 29:25 NKJV The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.
I declare that my Lord God wrote my destiny before the foundation of the world, He knows my past, present, and future and He will make all things right for His glory. He is fully able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that I can think or ask! It is not my past or my shortcomings that determine my future, it is my Father in heaven who does! I will not bow down to what mere humans say about me. Only My Heavenly Father has the perfect eternal and final Word on my life.
Ephesians 1:3-6 NKJV Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
Ephesians 3:20-21 NKJV Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Ephesians 3:11 NKJV according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord,
I do not need to hold my head up in pride to compensate for shame. Instead, I will humbly accept my shortcomings, my mistakes, my sins, and my faults and show myself the same grace that Jesus shows me. It is only in Christ that I can be perfected into His image.
I will follow God’s will and stand on the promises of my Heavenly Father!
