Jesus restores 75-year old man’s marriage

Testimonies
D had been silently struggling in his relationship with his wife for years and had been praying for the Lord to help restore his marriage. Jesus answered his prayer through a healing and deliverance prayer while he was on vacation with his wife. Praise God!

I grew up in a Christian family in Asia and had my confirmation of my faith when I turned 17. I am now 75 years old and live in Canada.

I initially walked with God but in the years raising two children abroad with my wife, I became a lukewarm Christian.

About nine years ago, I retired from work and my wife retired four years later. Retired life was so good at first. We could do whatever we liked because we now had all the time to ourselves. Over time, however, spending so much time together and having less personal space caused conflict between us. My wife and I seldom compromised and sometimes, we just went our separate ways. When one was mad at the other, we would ignore each other and resort to the silent treatment. We had good days and bad days.

Between the two of us, my wife is the more outspoken one. To maintain the peace at home, I would usually choose not to argue with her and let things be done her way, so as to please her.

Over time, I felt like I had become an extension of my wife and had no character left.

I was very unhappy but I knew there is no perfect marriage. I sought comfort from God and prayed every day for God to bring us together in love again and bless our marriage.

Last month, my wife and I went back to Asia for a vacation. A family reunion dinner was set up. It was a wonderful occasion. My wife was very excited to meet up with family members because she had not been back for the last 12 years.

A week after the dinner, my wife and I visited my niece and stayed overnight at her place. Several years ago, this niece had sensed my weariness and burdens when I had returned back on a solo trip. She reminded me of the need for repentance of sins and the need to forgive, and she helped lead me in prayer to lay some burdens down.

At that time, I knew God was calling me back and decided to get re-baptised at a beach on the following day.

My wife and I had a pleasant dinner at my niece’s home and retired early to bed. The next morning, I woke up feeling very dizzy. I could not balance myself so I sat down in the sitting room. Shortly after I finished my morning devotion, my niece walked by. I greeted her and told her that I was feeling very dizzy. She sat down next to me and told me that I needed prayer.

My niece gently revealed to me that during the family dinner gathering the week before, the Holy Spirit had given her a vision of various people on fire. She saw half of my body in fiery flames from hell and my wife was fully in flames. Her understanding was that God was giving us a warning that if we didn’t repent, we would end up in hell.

Matthew 5:22 NKJV  But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.

She felt the flames around me were related to unforgiveness and asked me if there was anyone that I needed to forgive. I immediately said yes!

Matthew 6:14-15 NKJV  “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

I told her that as a matter of fact, my relationship with my wife had not been on good terms and that I had been holding grudges against her. Her passive aggressive behaviour had taken a toll on me. Most of the time, I let my wife do as she pleased even though I was not happy inside. Her angry outbursts, rejection, lack of eye contact and controlling mentality were pretty hard to take.

My niece responded and explained that by the way my wife behaved, it was evident that there were evil spirits trying to hurt me and my marriage by controlling my wife.

But by not standing up for myself, I had given demons a foothold in our household and that grieved God.

She asked if I wanted to forgive my wife and re-dedicate my marriage to God. I immediately agreed. My niece started guiding me to pray for forgiveness word by word. I also forgave my wife for what she had done to me and how she had disrespected and offended me. I also repented for not upholding Christ as the head of the family and for not being a good example of Jesus to my children.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, my niece then began to cast various evil spirits out of me. One area we specifically prayed about was to renounce the dedication of all men (that included me) in our ancestral village to the village idols. As she prayed, she told me she could see walls surrounding me, lots of walls, so she told me to make the gesture of holding a hammer to break down all the walls.

When the prayers were over, I felt my mind was clear and my whole self felt lighter. The dizziness was gone!

After the prayers were finished, my niece told me that the Lord had inspired her with a verse for me: 1 Peter 2:9. She explained that the Holy Spirit said that I have the gift to be an evangelist and she encouraged me to start spreading the gospel to my neighbours and other people I know.

1 Peter 2:9 NKJV  But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

By this time, my wife had also gotten out of bed. During breakfast at the dining table, my niece began to explain the prayers we just finished. She then gently told my wife that she had envisioned her whole body in flames at the family dinner gathering. She explained that these were likely related to bitterness, unforgiveness and family idol worship. She felt the Lord was grieved by my wife’s behaviour and wanted to heal her wounds. He wanted to draw my wife closer to Him as a pure bride for Jesus. My niece asked my wife if she would like to pray to forgive and repent. My wife said yes.

My wife prayed to forgive all those who had hurt her, including me, our children, and people she had worked with. As she was doing that, tears ran down from her eyes. She told God that she would open her heart to Jesus and invite God to lead her forward. She then confessed and repented of family idols. This is when she started to cough continuously as my niece began to cast evil spirits out of her. Both my wife’s hands were shaking as the power of the Holy Spirit came upon her. She felt a warm stream flowing from her heart to her stomach.

When the prayer was over, my wife sat opposite me face-to-face with teary eyes. She apologised to me for being very harsh on me and she was sorry for being controlling.

I, in turn, apologised to her for not being a good husband and for holding grudges against her.

The tense look on my wife’s face vanished, and I could see her eyes were full of love and compassion. We hugged each other with joy and relief. That night, my wife had the best ever sleep without her annoying, lifelong ear ringing problem. Praise the Lord!

My wife has had ringing in her ear ever since she was young and it bothered her. During the daytime, it was not very noticeable but whenever she lay her head down in bed at night, the ear ringing would start and go on nonstop. Because of that, she had a hard time falling asleep. She very seldom had a good night and her quality of sleep was bad.

The night before our reconciliation, my wife had experienced unusually severe ear ringing and headaches. The evil spirits in me and my wife knew that they would be cast out in the name of Jesus the next morning. They put a dizzy spell on me as soon as I got out of bed.

A week later, we revisited our niece. I wanted to learn more about the Holy Spirit and how we could learn to listen to Him clearly.

My wife became very afraid of the idea of going back and didn’t want to come with me. With this, I knew she had more evil spirits that needed to be dealt with.

When we reached my niece’s home, my wife no longer felt afraid. We asked for prayer and more counselling, and I gave my niece my questions about the Holy Spirit.

My niece explained that the Holy Spirit is very gentle and communicates gently so we have to make time to put down our schedules and listen intentionally to Him. After we make this a practice, it is easier to recognise His voice. We need practice to slow down and listen. Also, repentance is vital to keep our hearts pure to listen to God, because the Holy Spirit speaks through our hearts. Sin blocks us from hearing from God. Because we live in a world that is corrupted by evil spirits, most of our negative and judgmental thoughts (up to 90 percent) come from evil spirits. We often mistake these for our flesh and can feel bad about ourselves. We need to discern that most times, our thoughts are a battlefield. We must choose our thoughts carefully. The Holy Spirit always leads to peace and His words always align with God’s will and the Bible.

After answering my questions about the Holy Spirit, my niece gave us a list of pagan philosophies, idols and superstitions to repent of and renounce. We prayed to renounce and cut ties from the evil deeds, idols, superstitious encounters, and ungodly processions originating from our parents and ancestors over the generations.

In the name of Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit, we cast out evil spirits that had strongholds in us and broke generational curses.

This whole prayer session began with my wife and me standing next to each other and our niece in front of us. All that time, our eyes were closed as my niece guided us in prayer. I could hear our niece saying that she could see that the evil spirits had attacked my wife’s head and body with many darts and knives, causing her pain and discomfort. She instructed my wife to make a gesture of pulling all of those things out. She also commanded tormenting spirits to come out of my wife’s heart.

My wife recalled her physical heart feeling three separate jerks, which were like the opening and slamming of a door. Also, she saw a bright light shining upon her head.

She was scared but she heard a voice giving her a verse, Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God,” and saying, “Don’t worry, I will take care of everything.” Again the voice said, “Be still and know that I am God.”

Then my niece prayed for my cleansing. By the power of the Holy Spirit and in the name of Jesus, she prayed to cast out evil spirits from me. I could feel several bursts of cold currents flowing upwards from the bottom of my body, alongside my body, and then dissipating into the air. As she prayed on, this phenomenon occurred three more times. I could hear her speaking in tongues occasionally.

Then my niece laid her hand on my head as she prayed for the Holy Spirit to fill me and my wife. As she prayed for that, I envisioned a bright light on my head, and it was flowing down like lava onto my stomach. It was warm and soothing. My wife felt the same too.

It was made known to us afterwards that that was the anointing of the Holy Spirit. After my deliverance, I feel more peace, more joy, more clarity, and more hope.

Hallelujah! My wife and I are reborn. My wife has been given a new heart and cured of her ear ringing problem. I have better self control and have begun to hear the Holy Spirit’s prompting.

The Holy Spirit prompted me a few days ago that I had an ungodly item in my house. It was the ashes of a dead person unknown to me, contained in a small glass cylinder inside a small box. I had discovered it while volunteering at a thrift store. Out of respect, I took it home to try to locate possible relatives, instead of throwing it into the garbage. After a few attempts, I totally forgot about it. It has been sitting at the top of my bookshelf for almost two years! The Holy Spirit prompted me to get rid of it, which I did. And today, I was prompted to get rid of another ungodly object – an African war drum which has been sitting in my basement for several years, which I will also get rid of.

Deuteronomy 7:26 NKJV  Nor shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be doomed to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest it and utterly abhor it, for it is an accursed thing.

I thank God for restoring my wife and my marriage. There is now harmony in our relationship. We are kinder, more patient and more loving. And yes, more affectionate.

I want to get closer and closer to God. Because the Bible tells us that God is Spirit and we worship Him in spirit (our own spirit) and in truth, I will strive to connect with Him personally in spirit through prayers and the Holy Spirit. God is faithful and unchanging. He is still the hope who surrounds me faithfully. I can trust Him. His goodness is coming after me!

John 4:24 NKJV  God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
