Cleansing home

We may never know the full history of a house, flat, field or hotel room. Fortunately, that doesn’t matter when we have God by our side and we can cleanse our homes in the name of Jesus Christ! Here is a cleansing prayer over a property that we own or lease.

Leviticus 18:24-25 NKJV ‘Do not defile yourselves with any of these things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am casting out before you. For the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants.

Cleansing prayer over a property

“Dear Heavenly Father, 

Thank you for this home. Please transform me into a light to all who are in this household. Where there has been anger, accusation, fighting and violence amongst us, please forgive us. I repent of all unkind and curse words spoken in this place. We do not want to give the enemy a foothold in this home. 

Matthew 5:14-16 NKJV  “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Ephesians 4:26-27 NKJV  “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor give place to the devil. 

Today, I come before You and repent of my personal sin before I pray over this home, including (please wait on the Holy Spirit to show you anything and ask for forgiveness over anything else that comes to mind).

I renounce all past witchcraft, such as (please list e.g. fengshui, chanting, fortune telling, horoscope reading) and idol worship, such as (please list eg. worship of guan yin, buddha etc.) done in this place, whether by the current or past occupants. I declare there can be only one God and Lord over this home. 

Psalm 95:3 NKJV  For the Lord is the great God, And the great King above all gods.

Psalm 96:4 NKJV  For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.

Jeremiah 16:18 NKJV  And first I will repay double for their iniquity and their sin, because they have defiled My land; they have filled My inheritance with the carcasses of their detestable and abominable idols.”

I renounce all altars, statues of idols, covenants and offerings made in this place in the past and declare their spiritual power cancelled and void in the name of Jesus Christ. Where this address has been recorded in any temple or place of idolatry as a result of such activities, I now sever the ties and declare there can no longer be any link to my home. (Please also commit to destroying any object related to idolatry or the occult. See Beware spiritually unclean objects that God detests.)

I repent for sexual immorality and sexual perversion in this place by watching or acting out pornographic acts or through our imagination, the “screens” of our minds. Where I have allowed unclean spirits into my home through music and the media that glorifies witchcraft, idols, sin and debauchery, I repent.

Ezekiel 36:17-18  “Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own ways and deeds; to Me their way was like the uncleanness of a woman in her customary impurity. Therefore I poured out My fury on them for the blood they had shed on the land, and for their idols with which they had defiled it.

Where this building or the land it stands on has been dedicated to any gods of the land or been defiled by idol worship, sexual perversion, bloodshed or unburied bodies, I now repent and renounce. Where other people who worship idols have prayed to “bless” my home or building, without my permission, I forgive them and renounce all their rituals, offerings, burnt incense, chanting, and prayers. Where there are festivals and offerings in this neighbourhood that have invited any gods, the dead, and other spirits into the area I live in, I renounce them in the name of Jesus Christ. Where building contractors have invited their gods into this place, without my permission, to protect them while they worked, I now forgive them and renounce all their prayers and dedications. I renounce the use of feng shui and “prophetic words” spoken by monks, priests or fortune tellers over this home.

Numbers 35:33-34 NKJV  So you shall not pollute the land where you are; for blood defiles the land, and no atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it. Therefore do not defile the land which you inhabit, in the midst of which I dwell; for I the Lord dwell among the children of Israel.’ ”

Ezekiel 39:14 NKJV   “They will set apart men regularly employed, with the help of a search party, to pass through the land and bury those bodies remaining on the ground, in order to cleanse it. At the end of seven months they will make a search. 

Psalm 90:1 NKJV  A Prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.

My family will not be yoked to any idols. I declare that My Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, is the One who protects me and my dwelling place. 

Holy Spirit, as I wait on You, please show me if there is anything else that has defiled this place, so that I can repent of and renounce it. (Please wait on the Holy Spirit to reveal anything else to you.)

In the name of Jesus Christ, I now command all unclean spirits to leave this place at once and go to the abyss, never to return.

As I anoint all the walls, doors and windows with fragrant oil, I dedicate this home to my God and invite the Holy Spirit to please fill this place. May the angels of the Lord encamp around us and protect us. 

Psalm 34:7-9 NKJV  The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him.

I declare Psalm 91:9-13 over my home; I choose to make the Most High God my dwelling place. No evil shall befall all those in this home and no plague can come near my dwelling for the Lord, my God, will give His angels charge over us, to keep us in all our ways. I will tread upon the enemy and will not be overcome. We place our trust fully in the Lord and obey His ordinances. 

Psalm 91:9-13 NKJV  Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

Heavenly Father, please bless the rest, sleep and dreams of all who live here. Jesus, thank you that we can walk in Your victory every day and experience Your love, joy and peace. Please make a hedge around this household and bless the work of our hands – all for Your glory!

Job 1:10 NKJV  Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.
